By Willem Karsin

Virginia travel has been showing an upward rise in recent years because tourists from all over the world are growing curious about US history. Virginia is a popular destination for history buffs, as Virginia was a major player in much of America's history.

Virginia, located at about the mid point of the Atlantic coast, is a 4-season state. It is blessed with a mixed and interesting topography, from the Blue Ridge Mountains to its excellent beaches.

Virginia's economy is strong and healthy, due in part to its popularity with tourists. It is interesting to note that Virginia has filed suit against the federal government, rejecting the recently passed and unpopular health care bill. It violates the Virginia State Constitution.

When you come to Virginia be sure to look for exciting events and festivals, such as the Monticello Tours, attractions like the beautiful Shenandoah Caverns and the sounds of the Virginia Living Museum.

Virginia has five distinct climate regions. The different weather welcomes Virginia visitors to a wide range of outdoor activities, such as snow skiing in the mountains, water skiing on the lakes, and playing golf in the valley all in the same day! Golfing, hiking, bicycling and camping are year-round activities in Virginia, and the coastal regions provide plenty of opportunity for water sports.

Virginia literally drips with America's history. While there you can spend days in Williamsburg, the restored Colonial capital. Don't miss Thomas Jefferson's Monticello, George Washington's Mt. Vernon plantation, and the capital of both the Confederacy and Virginia, Richmond.

Virginia Beach, probably the best known destination in the state, offers a wide variety of public beaches. It's newly refreshed resort area offers every amenity, including live music, outdoor cafes, street performers and a lively nightlife.

Colonial Williamsburg has been a vacation hotspot for many decades, and rightly so. You'll step into a time warp and experience the lives of both great and everyday people at the time of the American Revolution. Award winning, interactive and authentic tours bring to life the living experience of the 16th century. Modern amenities are not forgotten, as great dining and accommodations can be found in the historic triangle of Jamestown and Yorktown.

If you visit Virginia and don't experience the Blue Ridge Parkway, you're cheating yourself. The beautiful road and unbelievable vistas will leave you breathless.
