Do you know what wedding cake toppers are? That's a fair question. Not many people know what toppers are, but they are those small "figures" or "statues" that exist on top of the traditional wedding cake. They seem to scream out "Notice Me...I'm Something Special...I Matter!". From their very humble beginnings there is a great variety of wedding cake toppers available in the marketplace today. Let us spend a few minutes learning their background...

Now that we are done with our description, let us turn our focus to the history. Although no precise records exist of the very first time that an individual put a little statue on the very top of a wedding cake, a number of traditions do exist. One of the most popular traditions around states that a woman was engaged and getting married, and she was trying to figure out some way in which she could exhibit the extreme love that she and her future husband shared for each other. Her dad happened to be the baker in the village in which she lived, and she gave him a job. Because he was a baker he naturally baked a wedding cake, but he added a little model to the very top of the wedding cake. He positioned a model of his daughter and future son-in-law on top of the cake. This was to show off the adoration that these two young individuals shared for each other as they started their new life together.

Did this actually happen? Perhaps. Is it fictional? Perhaps. Does it foreshadow the prominence that the cake topper would have on not only the wedding cake but the big day? This is a given. This simple baker of cakes probably had no idea what a emerging trend he had started. The wedding day would never be the same again...

What comes to the forefront of your mind when you think of the 50's? Elvis and Rock & Roll right? Well toppers were to become more popular than ever during these years as those soldiers returning from WW2 started to settle down and develop a family.

Today we see that cake toppers are just as popular now as they have ever been. Figures have changed somewhat to reflect changes, but they are still popular none-the-less. Today you can get wedding cake toppers that depict mixed race marriages, and same-sex marriages as well. Many original toppers are being purchased these days. One such model depicts the lovely grabbing her new groom by the scruff of the neck...preventing him from getting away. Another shows her dragging him back to the preacher after he has escaped. Some toppers even show the various hobbies that the happy couple can enjoy.

We hope that you really enjoyed this journey into the world of toppers. If you would like to learn much more we invite you to visit our web site.
