By Thomas Clarke

There are many areas along the Golf Coast that you can find access to the beaches of the Gulf of Mexico, but there is no place as great as Florida. Florida is a long beach that surround the entire peninsula. The only place that you will not have a great stay on the beaches is when you are visiting the Island Keys. Although the Keys are not the best destination for a beach vacation it is the perfect destination if you are looking for a vacation full of water sports. The Keys has some of the best Fishing, water skiing, scuba diving and sailing, found any where.

There are many destinations that can provide you with some great vacation fun. If you go to the southern most point of the state you can visit Hemingway's house where there are six toed cats wandering about. The Atlantic side has the infamous Miami Beach, and on the North there is Cocoa Beach. Both are tourist destinations, however they will provide you with a great time no matter what kind of beach fun you are looking for.

There are things to do other than just hang out on the beach. Ninety minutes away in Orlando is Disney and all the other theme parks that you would want to visit and just a couple of hours north is Daytona Beach. Daytona is another great destination on the Florida east coast. A couple of hours across the state, on the Gulf of Mexico side is Tampa and Clearwater.

While in Tampa you will find that it is a fun city with much to do. There is fine dining, sporting events and theme parks, such as Busch Gardens. Just a short ride across the bridge you can visit the Clearwater/St. Pete area. This area has some of the best beaches in Florida with lots of fun and night life.

South of St. Petersburg is Sarasota and Ft. Myers. There are so many great seafood restaurants and Sarasota is a hot spot for the artist scene in Florida boasting one of the biggest collections of fine art at the Ringling Museum. North Florida, around the panhandle and along the Gulf coast towards Alabama boasts its own set of beaches and attractions and could be its own vacation.
