Taking Children On Long Flights And What To Expect

By Graham McKenzie

Many families use to take road trips with their kids for vacation. Now a days parents are taking their kids on flights to various parts of the world for vacation. If you have children and are planning one of these cross country vacations you may be wondering how you are going to survive this long flight with your children.

If you are travelling with an infant you can choose to hold them in your lap instead of buying an extra seat for them. Seat belts have extensions on airplanes for just this occasion so do not worry your child will be safe. When your child turns two however you will be required to buy them a seat.

You can only hold one child in your lap, so if you have more than one child and they are both under two you will need another adult along on the flight. Some people prefer to spend the extra money and book a seat for their infants so they can bring a car seat along.

This will cost more than holding your child but you will be able to actually move, eat, and even read. These are things you may not be doing much of while holding a baby. Make sure that if you are travelling with a baby that you have everything your baby needs.

Make sure to pack several extra bottles, and diapers. Of course there are other things you will need but let's face it these are the two most important. If you are travelling with children toddler age or over the airlines usually have amenities for your children.

If you have forgotten something to keep your child busy with, which I really suggest that you not do the airlines will help. They usually have coloring books and crayons, little toys in a goody bag, and you can usually get them a kids' meal as well. When you book your flights be sure to tell them your child's age. You can usually have meals for the children and baby food if you tell them in advance.

The best tips I can give you is to travel during down times. If you can book a flight that is not full or one that is at the time your child sleep or naps you may have a better flight. Also you should make a check list before you start packing for flights to be sure you have everything your child will need.
