Taking Some Time Off In Taba, Egypt

By Becky Parry

If you are considering taking a trip to Egypt, or perhaps one of its close neighbors, you might consider stopping off in Taba. Taba Egypt is perfect for a night or two stay on the leg of a journey, or just to get away for a few days. You can find plenty to do for such a small area. But to get you started, you should consider where you are staying for the night. At the last calculation, there are twelve surrounding hotels in the vicinity, but the highest recommended hotel would be the Hilton Resort.

A couple of years ago you wouldn't have found much here except the opulent Hilton and the bus stop, but development is slowly arriving in Taba, and there are at least quite a number of cafes in town. Twenty kilometers south of Taba the new development of Taba Heights also signifies that development money is slowly starting to siphon into the area. Taba Heights has a number of expensive hotels, and the diving industry in the area is growing rapidly. Numerous diving courses are available. From Taba Heights you can take a ferry to Aqaba in Jordan (frequent), but this option is only open to tourists who are part of a tour group.

You can travel to Taba visa-free for as many as 14 days, thanks to an agreement signed by the governments of Egypt and Israel. In order to take advantage of this agreement, a crossing at the Eilat-Taba border is required. The visa-free zone covers travel as far south as Sharm el-Sheikh, and you can also enjoy St. Catherine, Dahab and Nuweiba.

Taba Egypt has plenty of things to do and see while you are there. The clear, unpolluted waters of the Gulf of Aqaba contain sea life that is second to none around the globe. You can enjoy a few hours at the beach, and then meander through the cafes and shops after a beach side lunch.

If you are flying in, Taba International Airport is 35km from town. Taxis into town are plentiful. From Cairo you can take a decent long distance bus (mostly male passengers) to the border.

Do not forget to step out at night after a busy day of lounging on the beach. Taba Egypt offers fine dining at its best. Or you might want to avoid the spotlight and settle for a romantic night on the beach, while enjoying a nice cocktail. If you are feeling lucky, you might want to stroll over to the casino for a roll of the dice. Taba Egypt is the perfect choice for a quick weekend trip, or a relaxing week away from home and work. Do not miss it.
