Nebraska Santa Barbara - A Trip For The Whole Family!
Deciding which family vacation to take took us a little while to figure out. After much deliberation we finally settled on Santa Barbara. We arrived in LAX due to the fact that it was a lot cheaper than flying directly into Santa Barbara. Form there we decided to hop on the Pacific Coast Highway and start making the trek to our vacation spot. While in Malibu we decided to stop for a bite to eat because the children were hungry and restless. The food was moderately price which was a shock compared to what we expected for California.
We had rented a minivan so that all of us could easily travel comfortably. The mini van was great for the kids who jumped in the swivel seats and began yelling at the celebrities they saw. While I drove, my wife swore that she had spotted the famous action packed Jean-Claude Van Damme. As you can probably tell this was a pretty big vacation for us, seeing as how we are originally from Omaha Nebraska which rarely sees a celebrity. There were plenty of beautiful people both men and women hanging out on the beach, catching some rays.
By the time we'd arrived in Santa Barbara, it had been two hours and fifteen minutes, not bad time according to the clerk at the vacation house check-in. Once we'd reached Malibu, the drive was serene all the way into Santa Barbara and my stress levels declined considerably, only occasionally spiking due to the kids throwing a blunt object at the back of my head just to get a reaction. I tuned the radio to a local jazz station and tuned them out in the process. I was intent on arriving without a bump on my skull and spending an hour in the hot tub, which was to be attached to our private deck.
Without a doubt this was the most expensive vacation that I had ever taken the family on. Nonetheless the bonus that I had earned from work has paid for everything and we still had leftover cash. On the same note it was the weekend of my wife and I's anniversary. Of course, she had forgotten but my trusty old planner had never steered me wrong before. Who says you need a Blackberry to keep your life and dates in line?
We had rented a beautiful private beach house that had just about everything that we needed. We had an ironing board, washer and dryer, vaulted ceilings and a breathtaking view of the ocean. When we had laid the kids down for a nap, the house got quite and all I could hear was the crashing of the waves onto the shore. With a click of a button my wife turned on the fireplace and closed the blinds. She enjoyed the fact that she could do all of this with the magic of a remote control.
There are very few words to describe just how great Santa Barbara actually is. The beaches are not ever really crowded with too many people and children. As I stepped into the water I could feel the coolness run up my legs which acted as a soothing mechanism from being cooped up in a plane.
The kids buried themselves in the cleanest sand I'd ever seen, and our weekend in Santa Barbara quickly became the topic of conversation at dinner for months. I promised the kids that if they manage to graduate from high school someday, I'll take us back for an entire week. And if I get the next bonus I'm due for, my wife and I will definitely consider turning that memorable weekend into a retirement home, replete with shuffleboard and cocktail shrimp and all the other Santa Barbara lifestyle perks that once seemed so foreign to me.
