By Julie Ingham

Being creative can sometimes be hard. Especially when it comes to maternity costumes. Many women think that they can't wear a costume just because they are pregnant.

They couldn't be more wrong. It's the perfect time to get super creative and finding that special maternity costume will be so much fun.

The Pea Pod. This is a very simple costume to make. Simply dress all green. Get a cheap green sweater or a t-shirt and then make a vertical slit in it so your belly can show through. Paint your belly green like a pea :)

The Pregnant Man. This one can be quite funny. We have all seen him in the papers and on TV. Now you can make him appear in your party! Just dress like a man, put on a mustache and you will be an instant hit!

You can do many clever things with you belly and some paint. One cool idea is to change your belly into a fish tank. Paint a fish and perhaps some bubbles on your belly. If you want to you can just wear a tank top to show it but you can also wear a white or light blue blouse that is see through.

Who doesn't live a flower child? And you can easily become one. Wear something with loud prints on, put beads or flowers in your hair and then paint a smiley or a peace sign on you belly.

Another easy paint job is the watermelon. If you dress like a farmer then you can carry a watermelon in front of you at the costume party. Just paint the belly melon green and than add some light green stripes. It's really that simple.

Now let's get a bit more noughty. How about you dress like a catholic school girl, wearing a nice shirt, tie and a short skirt. Your hubby can be the priest. That's a couples costume that will raise some eyebrows.

Proud of your figure? Proud enough to wear a bikini to the party? It's a great idea and you can turn you belly into a beach ball using some paint. It's will be so cool to see someone carrying a beach ball at the party.

If you are getting close to labor then make sure you don't do anything that requires to much work. Make sure to get help or you can do this the easy way, buy a costume. Buying a maternity costume is easy and not expensive. You can find a great costume for no more than $30-$40. It will save you both time and a lot of work.
