As a city break destination Glasgow is not usually at the top of a lot of people's must visit lists, however recently Glasgow has appeared on the most influential destination guides as just that a must see, must visit destination. The largest city in Scotland and one with a history dating back to the stone age and Celtic Druids visits by the Romans including a Roman Fort. The first Christian church was founded in the 6th century and around 500 years later work began on Glasgow's first cathedral. An important trading centre since the 16th century, which evolved in to the major shopping centre Glasgow is today.
Today Glasgow is a major shopping destination with the best range of shops and shopping facilities in the UK after London. So if you want to shop until you drop then Glasgow has all shops you could ever need and more. The coach station is also in the city centre and like the train has regular arrivals from England and the north of Scotland. Some of the best attractions include the fantastic Kelvingrove Art Gallery, probably the busiest gallery in the UK after the Tait Gallery in London. Loch Lomond and the Highlands can be reached easily from Glasgow as can Stirling, Edinburgh and Ayrshire. If you wish to see more of the surrounding areas it is advisable to rent a car.
