Disney Dream - Newest Disney Cruise Line Ship - Celebrates its Keel Laying
In order to expand to many more itinerary options all across the globe, the Disney Cruise Line is expanding its fleet with two newly designed ships. The first of those two ships, Disney Dream, is celebrating its keel laying.
The Disney Dream's keel laying ceremony took place in Papenburg, Germany. The new ship will continue its construction process at the Meyer Werft Shipyard. The keel laying ceremony commences when the first piece of a ship is lowered into the building dock. A lucky coin was put under the keel of the Disney Dream for good fortune.
The Disney Dream will join the Disney Cruise Line fleet in 2011. Shortly thereafter, in 2012, the Dream Fantasy will set sail. The total capacity of both ships more than doubles that of the current Disney Cruise Line fleet. The new ships weigh in at 128,000 tons and have 1250 wonderfully appointed staterooms onboard.
Disney called in the best from the Meyer Werft shipyard and the team at Walt Disney Imagineering to merge the perfect design with the magical storytelling of Disney. Together, they have created a wonderfully unique design.
Even though the exact design details aren't available yet, the Disney Dream will sure to please every family member. Spaces have been designed for families, kids and adults-only so that every person who boards will have a place to call home during the voyage.
Disney's unique cruise terminal in Port Canaveral, FL, will serve as home to the two new ships. Because of their size and the increased capacity, Disney has already started expanding their unique terminal.
Not only will the dock get longer and the terminal be reconfigured to a bigger size, construction on a new multi-floor parking garage has also begun. These new features will help smooth the loading and unloading process.
So, keep a watchful eye on the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy as you won't want to miss sailing on these beautiful new ships.
