Its actually an anti-vietnam war song. The song deliberatley sounds catchy and patriotic but this? and the 'born in the USA' chorus is meant to be ironic when contrasting to the bitter tone of the verses. The song ain't anti-american, it's simply an? anti-war-athmosphere song. So basically, anti-fear-mongering. I don't oppose war in general, but I oppose b/s wars.

It's about the Vietnam war. If you actually looked in the lyrics you would have seen that the Vietcong and Khe Son were both mentioned. Why would you talk about? something you don't know?

actually bruce got? so upset that ronald regan used it as an anthem on his election campagin he stopped playing the full band version during tours and would only play acoustic..... that changed here but it was acoustic for a while
